“BUY THE TICKET, TAKE THE RIDE.”

-Hunter S. Thompson

It doesn’t matter if you’re a grizzled ADV veteran who’s already dropped pins all over the world map, or a tenderfoot noob with chickenstrips on their tires as wide as the cuff on a hipster’s jeans, the offseason can be depressing for any motorcyclist that doesn’t live near the equator.

You could easily spend your winter eating peanut-butter-and-jealous sandwiches watching Youtube videos of other riders having awesome adventures abroad. Or instead, you could exchange a dent in your credit card balance for an experience that will not only warm your winter, but will enrich both your worldview and your riding skills. We endorse the latter.

Check out these fantastic warm weather destinations and riding itineraries from some of the best in motorcycle travel services:

1: Ecuador

With overland access to the Andes Mountains and the Amazon Jungle, Ecuador is widely regarded as having some of the best and most diverse terrain for both rugged off-road riding as well as paved twisties. This South American country also offers cheap gas, low traffic, diversity of climate, altitude, and culture in a relatively safe democratic republic. Our own @wander4days is embarking on a self-guided tour there this month.

5: California

As a team mostly made up of New Yorkers, the BikeMinds crew might concede that the West coast is the best coast when it comes to year-long riding. While clearly warmer in SoCal, we decided to post Northern Cali and the Bay Area for this list, due to its diversity of riding terrain as well as scenery. While maybe not as warm or exotic as an arid desert or tropical jungle, it’s tough to argue against strafing corners around giant redwood trees and the epic majesty of riding along the Big Sur coastline.

Leod Escapes

Self Guided Tours & Rentals anytime March through April

6: Cambodia, Vietnam, & Laos

If you’ve never been to Southeast Asia before, traveling by motorcycle would offer you a truly immersive experience, as most of it’s people also move via two-wheels. An insane amalgam of diverse culture and vibrant food, along with dense rain forest terrains and manic city streets, seeing the temples and riding the topography of this region would provide you with plenty of stories to regale your buddies at home with after a spectacular trip.

7: Cuba

Mix a temperate Caribbean locale with a totally unique cultural experience and you get this island country. Few places this close to the continental US offer such a dynamic mix of old-world aesthetics, musical heritage, and distinctive food. The trapped-in-time automotive culture alone is worth the (minor) hassle of travel documentation for American gearheads.

Edelweiss Bike Travel
